COPA Soccer Training Center (COPA STC) proudly announces its partnership as the Official Talent ID Partner of Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club, a strategic move aimed at revolutionizing talent identification and player development. This multi-year collaboration signifies a powerful synergy between forward-thinking entities committed to discovering and nurturing soccer talent, alongside TSG Hoffenheim, in COPA’s mission to revolutionize Talent Identification.
This partnership aims to redefine talent identification in soccer and create a pathway for aspiring players through COPA STC’s ‘Objective Player Pathway’. This free initiative provides opportunities for players to sign with talent ID partners like Oakland Roots, leveraging COPA’s dedicated assessment technology. Progressing through stages by meeting established benchmarks, derived from 3 years of data collection by both organizations, leads to an invitation to attend an official Talent ID day with Roots and Soul technical staff, where top players could earn a contract.
The partnership’s core objectives include:
1. Advanced Evaluations: COPA STC will continue to conduct comprehensive assessments encompassing cognitive, technical, and physical metrics for players within the Oakland Roots & Soul teams. This includes Cube Rating, The COPA Score and cognitive diagnostics.
2.Objective Player Pathway: As the Official Talent ID Partner, COPA STC has established an alternative and inclusive player pathway for individuals seeking to join Oakland Roots teams. Learn more about the Objective Player Pathway here: LEARN MORE
3. Innovative Talent Development: Led by Jordan Ferrell, Roots Technical Director, and COPA STC’s Senior staff, this initiative fosters highly personalized development environments by leveraging innovative technology only found at COPA STC for Project 51O’s high-potential players. Notably, this approach has contributed to the recent development of current 1st team players Timothy Syrel and Etsgar Cruz.

“Potential pros are inevitably missed because they are not caught by the traditional subjective and limited methods of scouting” said Jordan Ferrel, Oakland Roots SC Technical Director. “The COPA Score can accurately evaluate hundreds of these prospective athletes and provide us with critical data we would otherwise not have. This objective evaluation can help fill in the gaps of both the recruiting and training process.”
COPA’s core assessment tool, The COPA Score, evaluates players’ technical, physical, and cognitive skills, offering comparative data for their level of play, and their aspiring level. It provides actionable feedback, allowing players to track their development. COPA has assessed Oakland Roots, Soul, and 510 players through this process over the previous seasons, providing objective insights to players and staff.

In line with both organizations’ dedication to best practices and innovation, this year introduces more comprehensive cognitive evaluations, focusing on executive functions and stress tolerance, crucial for high-level soccer performance. For younger players, skeletal age testing will offer additional insights and opportunities to further advance the club’s development pathway for its young prospects.
