How To Make S.M.A.R.T. GoalsPart III-Achievable
Our goals are now Specific and Measurable. Next step – Achievable
Goals fuel success and this blog series is dedicated to providing you with the best opportunity to achieve those goals by making them S.M.A.R.T. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Bound. These together create a goal that is carefully planned, clear, and trackable – all of which are needed to set yourself up for success.
As we learned in the S.M.A.R.T. Goals Part I, being specific creates a concrete mission statement that keeps you focused and provides a finish line. In S.M.A.R.T. Goals Part 2, a measurable goal becomes real by providing concrete numbers that can be seen, followed, and tracked
Now it’s time to move to the third part: Achievable.

ACHIEVABLE
This is the fuel for motivation. Not only does our goal have a finish line and a way to track our progress, making it achievable puts that finish line within sight. We know we can reach it if we stay on track.
This may be easier said than done if this particular goal requires developing new skills or changing detrimental behavior. If the goal is to make varsity at tryouts in two months and there’s a habit of sitting on the couch all day, something is going to need to change.
These achievable goals can simple or grandiose –it depends on you. Maybe the overall goal is to make the high school team next year, but for this week, the achievable goal is to run a total of five miles. Having short-term achievable goals helps keep your big long-term goal within sight.
